"The Mansplain" print
50cm x 50cm limited edition print of a scene of a group of nude women being “mansplained” to by a fully clothed, unsufferable man.
// Cambridge Dictionary definition //
“Mansplaining: to explain something to someone in a way that suggests that they are stupid; used especially when a man explains something to a woman that she already understands”
(This term was coined by Rebecca Solnit)
I wanted to make this painting for all the women who have felt belittled by a man’s assumed superiority to them (which I’m guessing is every woman who sees this🥴). It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but the idea is to highlight how women bring a lot to the table, and are generally far more vulnerable and exposed to the elements in their day-to-day than men (sexual harassment & assault/ period & menopause hormone fluctuations/ diet culture etc etc), and yet are expected to sit and listen whilst men jabber on and set the framework for modern culture/ finance/ opportunities/ healthcare/ childcare… the list goes on.
Printed on fine art Giclee paper by The Copper House in Dublin, this print has a white border and comes numbered and signed by artist. Delivery in a mailer tube.
